❓ Frequently asked questions
The "Jobs" module is part of the Steel Water portal where seafarers and employers meet. It is not a recruitment agency or a crewing company, but a platform for direct hiring: companies publish vacancies themselves, specialists apply themselves. No commissions, no middlemen and no "agent → sub-agent → you" chains. All correspondence and documents stay inside the platform, and you talk to the employer directly.
Crewing agencies work on a commission model: they take money from the seafarer or from the company. This creates extra barriers and costs. On Steel Water, the employer publishes the vacancy themselves, the specialist applies themselves, and money in the chain is only between the employer and the employee. For shipping companies this is also a plus: fewer links — the vacancy is closed faster, hiring costs are lower, and you speak to the specialist directly.
Our focus industry is everything connected with water. There are no vacancies for office managers or sales assistants here. Only maritime and river professions are published: merchant fleet (container ships, bulkers, tankers, gas carriers, reefers), passenger fleet (cruise liners, ferries), fishing fleet (from seiners to trawlers and factory ships), shipyards (hull fitters, pipefitters, NDT inspectors, installers), ports and terminals (stevedores, crane operators, dock mechanics, dispatchers), yachts and boats (captains, stewards, skippers), marinas and yacht clubs (technicians, instructors, shore staff), engineering and command positions (engineers, electro-technical officers, chief officers, masters), as well as technical and administrative staff of shipping companies and ship repair plants. If your profession is not connected with water — you probably will not find anything here, and this is a deliberate choice: we want to be a precise industry platform, not "yet another universal job board".
On universal job boards, maritime specifics are blurred. A company writes "engineer" — and it is unclear whether it is an engineer at a plant or an engineer on a ship. It writes "master" — and it is unclear whether it is a tug master or a cruise liner master. On Steel Water, every vacancy has a detailed structure: ship type, sailing area, voyage duration, document requirements, medical examination, experience. Employers fill this in themselves — because the forms are made for real industry tasks, not "stretched" from a universal template. For a specialist this means one thing: less time filtering out noise — you open a card and immediately see whether the ship, voyage and conditions fit or not.
You create one resume — but a detailed one: indicating the ships you have worked on, diplomas, certificates, experience and sailing area. The resume is free and without limits on placement duration. One resume per account — just as in real life a seafarer has one current CV. You can edit it at any time: update a diploma, add the latest contract, change the desired region. Employers see the current version, and you do not spread your attention across several cards.
Browse vacancies and filter by speciality, country, city and ship type. Apply directly — without middlemen. If a company is interested in your resume, it writes to you itself. If you applied first, a representative of the employer replies to you. Everything is inside the platform, with correspondence history: no lost letters or "I sent it to your email". All responses and invitations are recorded in your personal account.
Posting your first vacancy is free. Moderation takes less than 24 hours — we check that the vacancy relates to the maritime industry, complies with platform rules and contains no incorrect wording. For companies with a large flow of vacancies, a subscription is available with extended features: more active vacancies, priority placement, extended analytics and work with responses. We do not take a commission from the seafarer and do not take a percentage of the hire — money in the chain stays only between the employer and the specialist.
Yes, and this is one of the key features of the module. The filters are made for real industry tasks: ship type (container ship, bulker, tanker, gas carrier, reefer, cruise ship, ferry, seiner, trawler, factory ship, yacht and others), sailing area, voyage duration, requirements for diploma and certificates, as well as experience. You can search by speciality, country, city and ship type at the same time — so you find exactly what fits your diploma and preferences.
A message from an employer arrives in the built-in chat and in your personal account notifications. You can reply, ask clarifying questions about the voyage, conditions, contract terms and document requirements — all in one dialogue. The correspondence history is preserved, so you can return to it at any time. If the offer does not interest you, you can politely decline — this is normal practice on the platform and does not affect your rating or resume visibility.
The "Jobs" module is one of the parts of the Steel Water ecosystem. The portal also has a shipyard catalogue (repair and construction, docks and capacities), a marina catalogue (yacht clubs and berths), a job exchange (ship repair, finding contractors and suppliers), a marketplace (spare parts, equipment, machinery, services), and a fleet catalogue (vessels of various types). For a shipowner or fleet operator this is a bundle: find a crew, order repairs at a shipyard, and select spare parts in parallel — all in one place, without switching between services. For a seafarer it is an opportunity to be in a professional environment where employers, contractors and service companies are all nearby.
The interface and SEO pages of the "Jobs" module are available in Russian, English, Turkish, Chinese, Hindi and Arabic. This is especially convenient if the company and the specialist are in different countries: each reads the vacancy and resume in their own language, and the system translates the interface and SEO automatically. Category names, positions and key fields are filled in all six languages, so search works correctly regardless of the chosen locale.
If you are looking for a job — start with the list of vacancies. Filter by speciality, country, city and ship type, apply directly and communicate with the employer in chat. If you are an employer — register, create a company profile and publish your first vacancy: posting is free, moderation takes less than 24 hours. If you have not decided yet — look at which specialists are in demand today on the exchange and assess which areas are growing: perhaps your next contract is already here. And remember: the "Jobs" module is part of the large Steel Water ecosystem, so from here it is easy to move on to repair, spare parts or a berth in a marina.
Learn more about the job marketplace
Steel Water is a platform for the entire maritime industry: shipping, ship repair, shipbuilding, marinas, yachts, ports. An ecosystem where shipowners, shipyards, marinas and specialists meet in one place. Jobs is one of the modules of this platform. Let's talk about it.
Here seafarers and employers meet. Not a recruitment agency, not a crewing company, but a platform for direct hiring: companies post vacancies themselves, specialists apply directly. No commissions, no middlemen, no "agent → sub-agent → you" chains.
Who benefits here
Our focus is everything related to water. You won't find office manager or salesperson vacancies here. Only what genuinely relates to the sea and shipping:
- Merchant fleet — container ships, bulk carriers, tankers, gas carriers, reefer vessels
- Passenger fleet — cruise liners, ferries, passenger vessels
- Fishing fleet — from small seiners to large trawlers and factory ships
- Shipyards — both repair and newbuild: hull fitters, pipefitters, NDT inspectors, installers
- Ports and terminals — stevedores, crane operators, dock mechanics, dispatchers
- Yachts and boats — private, charter, corporate: captains, stewards, skippers
- Marinas and yacht clubs — shore staff, technicians, instructors
- Engineering and command positions — engineers, electro-technical officers, chief mates, captains
- Shipping companies and ship repair yards — technical and administrative staff
If your profession isn't connected to water — you probably won't find anything here. And that's fine: we want to be a focused industry platform, not "yet another universal job board".
What we do differently
On universal job boards, maritime specifics get blurred. A company writes "engineer" — and it's unclear whether it's an engineer at a plant or an engineer on a ship. They write "captain" — and you can't tell if it's a tug captain or a cruise liner captain.
With us, every vacancy has a detailed structure: vessel type, trading region, contract duration, document requirements, medical certificate, experience. Employers fill this in themselves — because the forms are designed around real industry tasks, not "stretched" from a universal template.
For a specialist, this means one thing: less time filtering noise. Open a card — and immediately see whether the vessel, voyage and conditions suit you or not.
How it works
Three steps — and you're in a dialogue with the employer.
Step one. Create a resume. One, but detailed: with vessels you've worked on, diplomas, certificates, experience, trading region. Resume is free with no time limits.
Step two. Browse vacancies. Filter by specialty, country, city, vessel type. Apply directly — no middlemen.
Step three. Chat. If a company is interested in your resume — they write to you. If you applied — the employer's representative replies. All inside the platform, with full chat history.
Why no middlemen
Crewing agencies work on a commission model: they take money from the seafarer or the company. This creates extra barriers and extra costs. We work differently: the employer posts the vacancy themselves, the specialist applies themselves. Money in this chain — only between employer and employee.
For shipping companies, this is a bonus too: fewer links — faster vacancy closure, lower hiring cost, and you talk to the specialist directly.
Jobs as part of the Steel Water ecosystem
Jobs is one of several modules of the platform. What else is on Steel Water:
- Shipyard catalog — repair and newbuild, from small bases to large shipyards with docks and capabilities
- Marina catalog — yacht clubs and berths for yachts of various classes
- Task board — posting ship repair tasks, finding contractors and suppliers
- Marketplace — spare parts, equipment, machinery, services for the industry
- Fleet catalog — vessels of various types and purposes
If you're a shipowner or fleet operator, the ecosystem gives you a bundle: find a crew, order repairs at a shipyard, and pick up spare parts — all in one place, without switching between services.
Who we do this for
For seafarers who are tired of middlemen and murky vacancies with unclear conditions.
For shipping companies, shipyards and fleet operators who need specialists with relevant experience, not random people.
For yachtsmen, private vessel captains and small charter companies who had no place of their own for finding crew.
For marinas and yacht clubs looking for technicians, instructors and shore staff.
And for the entire maritime industry — because we want finding work and finding workers to become simpler than it is now.
Where to start
If you're looking for work — start with the vacancies list. Filter by specialty, country, city and vessel type.
If you're an employer — register and post your first vacancy. Posting is free, moderation takes less than a day.
If you haven't decided yet — take a look at which specialists are in demand today. Your next contract may already be here.
