Marine spare parts supply — tasks for suppliers and traders

Marine spare parts are what keeps every mechanism on a vessel running. Timely supply of a genuine or quality alternative part determines whether a vessel sails on schedule or is laid up indefinitely. The Steel Water task board publishes tasks for supplying spare parts for main and auxiliary engines, pumps, systems, deck equipment and electronics — from a single gasket to major components.

Tasks are posted by shipowners, shipping companies, technical managers, ship repair yards, shipyards and supply companies. Contractors are marine spare parts suppliers, traders, authorised dealers, manufacturers, warehouses and logistics companies.

Types of supply on the task board

  • Main engine spare parts — pistons, liners, valves, injectors, fuel pumps, bearings, turbochargers
  • Auxiliary engine and generator spare parts — diesel generators, emergency engines, control units
  • Pump and system spare parts — centrifugal, gear, screw pumps, seals, rotors, impellers
  • Heat exchanger and separator spare parts — plates, gaskets, rotors, seals
  • Hydraulic components — pumps, motors, valves, directional controls, hoses, fittings
  • Electrical and automation — panels, relays, sensors, converters, cable connectors, lighting
  • Deck equipment — cranes, windlasses, winches, hatch covers, anchor chains
  • Consumables — filters, gaskets, packing, fasteners, paints

What to specify in a spare parts task

  • Vessel — name, type, IMO, flag, port of call or nearest port
  • Mechanism or system — engine, pump, separator, heat exchanger, crane, etc.
  • Manufacturer and model — MAN, Wärtsilä, Caterpillar, Cummins, Alfa Laval, Grundfos, Parker, etc.
  • Part number — OEM or equivalent, if known; mechanism serial number
  • Description — exact part name, quantity, weight, dimensions
  • Documents — nameplate photo, catalogue extract, drawing, specification
  • Requirements — genuine or aftermarket, certificates (class, manufacturer), country of origin
  • Timeline and logistics — when the part is needed, delivery point, terms (air, DHL, courier, standard)
  • Urgency — planned purchase or emergency; this affects route and delivery cost

What matters for spare parts suppliers

Spare parts supply is work where speed, reliability and logistics are critical. When responding to a task, specify: availability in stock or lead time on order, ability to offer genuine and alternative parts with prices, availability of certificates (manufacturer, class, origin), delivery timeline and route to port, readiness to handle freight and export-import documentation, warranty on the supplied part. If the task is urgent — confirm the ability to ship immediately (air, DHL, courier).

Documents and compliance

All supplied spare parts are accompanied by a packing list, invoice and, where required, a certificate of origin, certificate of quality or classification society approval. For critical components (engines, steering gear, safety systems), confirmation from the manufacturer or shipowner is often required. If you have experience with such requirements — mention it in your response.

Post spare parts tasks for free — find a supplier in the required region or for a specific mechanism. Or respond if you have a warehouse, access to manufacturers or a partner network. All active tasks — in the Spare Parts section.
