Vessel supply and provisioning — tasks for suppliers, agents and supply companies

Vessel supply and provisioning is a complex of services for the purchase, assembly and delivery to a vessel of materials, equipment, spare parts, provisions, fuel and essential supplies. The vessel's operation, crew nutrition, repair execution and departure deadlines depend on the timeliness and quality of supply. A delay in delivering a spare part or fuel can halt repairs or disrupt a voyage, and an error in the order can lead to downtime and additional costs. The Steel Water task board publishes tasks for all types of supply and provisioning — from standard ship orders to urgent deliveries in port, at anchorage and at shipyard.

Tasks are posted by shipowners, shipping companies, technical managers, fleet operators, captains, ship agents, shipyards, marinas and service companies. Contractors are material and equipment suppliers, ship agents, supply companies, spare parts distributors, provision suppliers, bunker companies and individual experts with maritime industry experience.

Types of supply and provisioning on the task board

  • Materials — metal, pipes, paint, consumables, insulation, fasteners, welding materials
  • Equipment — pumps, generators, cranes, heat exchangers, automation systems, electrical equipment
  • Spare parts — parts for engines, machinery, systems, deck equipment, automation

  • Urgent supplies — emergency orders, replenishment, replacement of spoiled or lost items
  • Complex supply — materials, equipment, spare parts, provisions, fuel in one order

What matters for suppliers, agents and supply companies

When responding to a task, specify: experience delivering to vessels in ports, at anchorage and at shipyards, availability of certificates and licences (ISO, HACCP, veterinary certificates, dangerous goods approvals, bunker licences), ability to assemble standard and specialised orders, availability of own transport, warehouses and equipment for delivery to vessel, readiness to work within tight deadlines and at any time of day, experience delivering to various vessel types (tankers, bulk carriers, container ships, yachts, fishing vessels), ability to work with foreign crews and supply specialised products, experience with ship agents, port services and customs, as well as readiness to provide all necessary documents. If special products are required — specify the ability to supply halal, kosher, vegetarian products, original spare parts, certified equipment.

Documents and safety

Vessel supply and provisioning are performed in accordance with the requirements of MLC 2006, sanitary norms, veterinary legislation, food safety rules, dangerous goods requirements (IMDG, ADN) and bunkering rules. All goods must have certificates of conformity, veterinary certificates, declarations, passports and marking in a language understood by the crew. When delivering to a vessel, safety requirements are observed: port area work permit, personal protective equipment, compliance with temperature regimes during transport, shelf-life control, cleanliness of transport and packaging, safety measures during bunkering. Invoices, acceptance acts, certificates, passports and entries in ship documents are mandatory elements of the report. If you have experience with such standards — mention it in your response.
