Other maritime tasks — non-standard and hard-to-classify
Not every maritime task fits into ready-made categories. Sometimes it's rare equipment, a specific type of work, a multi-disciplinary project or simply a task that's hard to attribute to a single specialisation. For such cases there's the "Other" category — tasks that don't fall into any standard category but still need to be solved.
Tasks are posted by shipowners, shipping companies, technical managers, shipyards, ship repair yards, ports, marinas and fleet operators. Contractors are service companies, contractors, engineers, consultants, installation and repair companies ready to work on non-standard tasks.
What falls into the "Other" category
- Non-standard equipment and systems — rare units, unique equipment, specific systems
- Multi-disciplinary projects — repair + modernisation + installation requiring coordination of contractors
- Highly specialised work — outside standard categories (survey, expertise, audit)
- Engineering and consulting services — technical expertise, methodology development, personnel training
- Emergency and urgent work — when there's no time to pick the right category, but a solution is needed now
- Tasks at the design stage — when specifics are not yet defined and need discussion with a contractor
- Cross-industry tasks — at the intersection of maritime and other industries (oil & gas, energy, ecology, logistics)
- Combined tasks — combining supply, installation, service and consulting in one project
What to specify in an "Other" task
The more detailed the description, the faster a contractor is found. In this category, the quality of the response directly depends on the quality of the task. Specify:
- Vessel or object — name, type, IMO, location or nearest port of call
- Essence of the task — in your own words, what needs to be done, without trying to pick "correct" terms
- Scope — repair, maintenance, supply, consulting, installation, design, other
- Technical details — what is known: brands, models, characteristics, dimensions, working conditions
- Photos and documents — if available, attach: photos, drawings, schematics, specifications, references
- Desired result — what should be the outcome: working equipment, document, recommendations, report
- Timeline — when required, whether there are time or season constraints
- Budget — if defined, specify; if not — mark "Negotiable"
- Urgency — scheduled, urgent or emergency
What matters for contractors
The "Other" category is work for those ready to dig into non-standard tasks. When responding to a task, specify: your profile and specialisation, experience with similar or adjacent tasks, readiness to offer a solution or recommendation, timeline and cost of work, what you can do independently and what — through partners. If the task is outside your specialisation, don't respond "just in case" — better to offer the customer a concrete solution or decline. If the task is clear to you and you know how to solve it — describe this in your response, even if the task wording is non-standard.
How we help with classification
If a task is published in the "Other" category, our moderators and managers can suggest a more suitable category or propose clarifications. We can also reclassify a task if it clearly belongs to a standard specialisation — in this case the customer receives a notification, and contractors see the task in the correct category. If you're unsure where to place a task — publish it in "Other", describe it as fully as possible, and we'll help.
Post other tasks for free — describe the essence in your own words, and contractors will find you. Or respond if you have experience with non-standard projects. All active tasks — in the Other section.
